Über Primarius Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Grünberger

Prof. Thomas Grünberger ist Abteilungsvorstand der Chirurgischen Abteilung des Kaiser-Franz-Josef Spitals, SMZ-Süd, in Wien. Dieses Krankenhaus ist das Zentrum für Leber-, Pankreas- und Gallenwegstumortherapie der Wien Kliniken. Als Facharzt für Chirurgie und Zusatzfacharzt für Viszeralchirurgie genießt der Experte für Tumoren der Leber, des Pankreas und der Gallenwege bzw Gallenblase einen hervorragenden Ruf im Bereich der Viszeralchirurgie in Wien.

Bereits seit 1998 spezialisierte sich Prof. Grünberger auf dem Gebiet der Leber- und Pankreaschirurgie. Während seiner Tätigkeiten an Kliniken in Australien eignete sich Prof. Thomas Grünberger zudem Fertigkeiten an, die ihn heute zu einem sehr erfahrenen Leber- und Pankreaschirurgen machen. So hat Prof. Grünberger mittlerweile mehr als 1500 Leberoperationen und über 400 Pankreasoperationen durchgeführt, was seine Spitzenposition in der Viszeralchirurgie in Wien unterstreicht. Neben seiner klinischen Tätigkeit am SMZ-Süd ist Prof. Dr. Thomas Grünberger auch als Mitglied in der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für chirurgische Onkologie (ASSO) und als Mitglied der European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) aktiv sowie Mitglied zahlreicher anderer Fachgesellschaften. Darüber hinaus bildet er angehende Mediziner und Krankenpflegekräfte aus und ist gefragter Referent im In- und Ausland. Prof. Grünberger leistet auf dem Gebiet der Onkologie intensive Forschungsarbeit, die sich in zahlreichen wissenschaftlichen Publikationen niederschlägt. Zusätzlich leitet Prof Grünberger den Lehrstuhl für HPB-Chirurgie an der Sigmund-Freud Privatuniversität in Wien.

Zu den Spezialgebieten von Prof. Thomas Grünberger am Kaiser-Franz-Josef Spital gehören die Versorgung von Patienten mit Lebertumoren, Lebermetastasen, Bauchspeicheltumoren, Pankreaskarzinomen, Gallenblasenkarzinomen und Gallengangskarzinomen. Zu den chronischen Lebererkrankungen, die Prof. Thomas Grünberger und sein Team am Kaiser-Franz-Josef Spital in der Viszeralchirurgie Wien behandeln, gehören - sofern sie einer chirurgischen Therapie bedürfen - unter anderem die Leberentzündung (Hepatitis) und die Leberzirrhose (Schrumpfleber).

Ein typischer chirurgischer Eingriff am Kaiser-Franz-Josef Spital in Wien im Bereich der Leberchirurgie ist die Leberresektion (bzw. die Leberteilresektion). Eine teilweise Entfernung der Leber kann bei verschiedenen gutartigen und bösartigen Erkrankungen erforderlich werden, wie beispielsweise bei manchen Zysten oder Abszessen sowie Durchblutungsstörungen in der Leber. Haben sich bei einem Patienten mit einer malignen Tumorerkrankung (Krebs) Tochtergeschwulste in der Leber niedergelassen, sprechen die Experten am Kaiser-Franz-Josef Spital von sog. Lebermetastasen. Je nach Primärtumor, d.h. Lage des Haupttumors, werden Prof. Grünberger und sein Team versuchen, die Metastasen in der Leber operativ zu entfernen. Ggf. sind die Metastasen aber auch empfänglich für eine medikamentöse Behandlung oder Strahlentherapie.

Ein weiterer typischer chirurgischer Eingriff ist die Pankreasteil- oder totalentfernung. Dabei wird der tumortragende Teil der Bauchspeicheldrüse (Kopf, Körper, Schwanz) über einen Bauchschnitt in der Mitte des Oberbauchs entfernt und gleichzeitig durchtrennte Anteile des Oberbauchs (Magen, Gallengang, Rest der Bauchspeicheldrüse) wieder verbunden, damit eine normale Verdauung wieder hergestellt ist.

Prof. Thomas Grünberger wird stets im interdisziplinären Team mit den Experten der übrigen Fachrichtungen das für den Patienten erfolgversprechendste Behandlungskonzept entwickeln.
